Today I played basketball with my friends. It has been long time not playing basketball with my friends, so I was kind of happy. I met them in Kissena park which is located in Qeens. I rode bus and took lirr. After playing basketball, I went to Diner with my friends. I ate a hamberger and franch onion soup which are my favorite. While I enjoyed dinner with my friends, we talked about college lives. One of my friends goes to Qeens college and another friend goes to St. Johns University. I heard that they are having good time. After talking about college, I really want to pass the test. I have to study more... I had fun today.

Diary

Today I was so tired because I helped my sister's study. She is going to take SAT's exam on May 3rd. Although she came to the U.S., her English is not good as me. Also, she hates math, but math part is very important part of SAT's exam. I helped her especially on math questions. This is the first time taking SAT's exam to her. However, when I see her, she does not look nervous rather I feel nervous instead of my sister. I hope my sister gets good scores on the test but I do not look forward that much though.

Diary

Last weekend I moved to my uncle's house because my parents went to Korea. My parents went to Korea because of my grandmother's illness. I don't exactly know when they are going to come back, but I hope that my grandmother's health gets better and my parents come back soon. These days, I feel kind of nervous because of the placement test. Only few days left before the test. I will do my best, but I am still not sure... I am just looking forward to pass the test...

Today I think about who the happiest person in this world.


Many people want to be happy. In order to be happy, people do many different things. For instance, some people try to be happy through earning a lot of money so they can afford to do anything they want.However, although people have a lot of money, they are not satisfied. If you see celebrities, they do many wired things, such as drug, have an affair, etc, even though they have lots of money. Money cannot make people to be happy because people have insatiable desires. In my opinion, the happiest person in this world is a person who can receive thankfulness as thankfulness. Many people do not receive thankfulness as thankfulness. For example, people use hot water, and if it does not work, people complain about it. In the other hands, if there is a person who takes a shower with cold water every day, one-day hot water is working. Is the person not happy? Of course, the person is happy. If people thought about it, they would find thousand ways to be happy. I heard about a man who is a condemned criminal. Before his execution day, everything is beautiful and thankful to him seeing sunrise, listening to the sounds of birds, and even breathing. Likewise, people can be happy any time anywhere. Any person whoreceives thankfulness as thankfulness that person is the happiest person in this world.

The Ways

People live their lives studying, earning money, and raising their children. People live their lives in many different ways. For example, some people raise their children very strict but some are not. Despite the fact that there are many different ways, we can categorize them into two major groups. One group holds a path where everyone goes, and the other is where no one goes. The path where everyone goes is easy to follow and limited. On the other hand, the path where no one goes seems vague and impossible. Moreover, sometimes, people have to give up what they have to walk the path. Nevertheless, the way that no one goes looks risky and unsafe to walk, but this is the way, which improves people's lives and gives better quality of people's lives.

The path that no one goes seems impossible to become true, but because of people who walk this path, people can live better quality of lives. Wright brothers are people who walked this path. These days, many people use an airplane when they travel to other cities, states, and countries. It is a fact that the airplane improves the quality of people's lives. Long time ago, people thought and believed that it was impossible to people that humans could fly. However, there were two brothers dreamed to fly. They were Wright brothers, Wilbur Wright and Orville Wright, who invented the airplane. When they tried to make the airplane in order to fly, many people mocked then because they thought it was impossible to fly. Despite the people's thoughts and expectations, the Wright brothers succeeded in making the airplane. The Wright brothers walked the path where no one goes; as a result, people can live better life.

In addition, the path no one goes is simple and obvious but only after it has been explained. If we ask people, run a hundred miles per an hour, and breathe in the sea, they may say, "no" without any doubt. However, if people think differently, these things are very simple and obvious. People can run a hundred miles per hour by car, and breathe in the sea by a submarine. After explaining, it is easy to do, but it is very hard to think differently from others. There is one more example. Long ago, there was a person named Columbus. One day, he claimed that he could stand an egg on its end without any tools or aids. At that time, everybody said that is impossible and nonsensical, but he did. He just tapped an egg on the table and an egg stand on its end. After that, people said that they could do that if they tapped it on the table. Ironically, the path seems very hard and vague; but it is very easy and simple. Everybody can think but not everyone can accomplish these things.

Occasionally, people have to sacrifice and give up themselves in order to walk the path where no one goes. Bill Gates is one of the most famous people in the world. Today, he is a billionaire; however, he sacrificed himself gave his college studies up in some ways to be in that position. He enrolled at Harvard College, yet he did not graduate. He quit his college studies because he had a plan, a dream. When he decided to quit school, many people would have said that he is crazy, but he walked the path that he chose even though the path looked impossible. After all, he succeeded and he became a person whom everyone wants to be: a hero.

In conclusion, the path that no one goes looks impossible, yet because of the people who walked that path people can live batter lives. By walking the path, people improve the quality of their lives, and live more convenient lives. Although the path looks impossible, people have to sacrifice themselves and sometimes, it is too obvious to realize the answer. Because of the people who walked the path, such as the Wright Brothers and Bill Gates people can live better lives. Furthermore, I believe if there is no one to walk the path, there is no past, present, and future. Because of these people, people can live more convenient and enhanced lives.

Today I wrote about Freedom

The dictionary definition of freedom does not make it sound as harmful as it really is. The dictionary defines freedom as "the right to do or say what you want without any one stopping you." However, people who know the true meaning of freedom know that this definition is completely wrong. True freedom is able to exist under the certain limitations. In addition, a freedom without limitations is not freedom but a debauchery and wickedness. For instance, there are two dogs. One lives outside and the other lives in the house with its owner. Which one do you think has more freedom, the one which stays outside or the one inside? In my opinion, definitely the second one because it seems like the one which lives outside has freedom but it is not real freedom. It has to consider everything by itself, such as, where it would sleep or thinking about what to eat. While the other on is able to take rest under its owner, it does not have worry about anything. That is real freedom. Thus, true freedom is not doing whatever you want, but under the limitations.

Thought

Today, I thought about friend. I thought about the true meaning of friend. People now days don't know the true meaning of friends. In the Newbury House Dictionary, it defines friends as a person who one likes and trusts. There are many similarities friends share with one another. Nevertheless, many people use the word friends very lightly. Although they met the person once and hardly know them, they will consider that person their "friend". Ironically, I did the same thing, but today, I realized that those "friends" of mine will leave me because I don't have anything or I'm not able to give them what they want. When people ask me if I have friends, I'd answer back by saying, "just few real friends". I'd respond this way because real friends mean a person whom I can trust and whom trusts me although I may lack some qualifications as a friend and who I can count on more matter what circumstances stand before me.

Movie

Today I watched a movie called Shine. I did not plan to watch movie today, but my uncle wanted to watch. So, we went to Blockbuster, and borrowed Shine.At the beginning of the movie, I was not interested in it at all. However, at the end of the movie, my mind was totally changed. It was great. The movie was about the life of one pianist. A main actor had many hardships and bad circumstances. His family was poor and hid father did not want him to go to America to study piano. Also, becaause of pressure from his father, he became very timid person. Thus, he started to drink and smoke, so he was not able to play piano anymoer. After all, he met a woman who loves him truely. From that point, his life strated to change. And, although he was very old, he was able to play piano again.After watching this movie, I felt that friends is very important in our lives. When we faced bad situations and hardships, it is really hard to get throut hardships by ourselves.However, regradless of hard circumstances, if we have friends to get through circumstances, we can overcome hardships easily.

Thought

Today I wrote about let things go...
People want to have many things, such as money, fame, women and such. However, not many people get what they want, and they are not quite satisfied even if they get what they want. Some people say, "We can fill the ocean but we cannot fill the desires of people." Why do people say this? What is the matter with people's desires? People are satisfied with their situations until certain points. People say, "Let it go." I think it is very true, and many people do realize that they have to let things go. However, there is no one who follows this word. One day, I realized something related about this. When people are born, they roll their hands, and when they die, they unroll their hands. Is it not weird? People try so hard to let things go but they cannot. Yet when people die, they have to let things go even if they do not want to. People think they are going to lose if they let things go. However, it is wrong. They cannot gain anything without giving up. In other words, they have to feel sad to feel happy. They have to get into an accident to thank the insurance companies. I think it is very weird. We say and try to let things go but we cannot.

Thought

Today, I thought about what the best teacher is. I think the best teacher is not a teacher who teaches well, but a person who changes students' heart. The reason why I think this way is because everyone can teach students, but not everyone can change students' heart. For example, when I was third grade of junior high school, my grade was so bad. So, I was not able to go to good high school and I gave up to study. One day, my teacher called me and counseled me about going to high school. Eventually, he persuaded me to study hard, and I changed my mind. I studied diligently and I was able to go to very good high school. Although it happened long time ago, I still remember him and miss him. According to my experience, the teacher who changes students' heart is the best.

CANNOT

Today I wrote about the meaning of the word "cannot"

Cannot

Billions of people live in this world. They have many relationships in their lives including relationships between friends, co-workers, and family members. In addition, people have conversations within these relationships; also, people use the word “cannot” many times. However, people do not know what the meaning of “cannot” is and they misuse it.
First, people use the word “cannot” incorrectly. If people really think about it, soon they may realize they use wrong word. For example, people say, “I can’t do it.” It means they are not able to do it; in other words, they are not capable of. Nevertheless, people use the word “cannot” even when they are able to do it. They say that they cannot do it not because of lack of the capability, but because they do not try. Actually, people can do but just do not try.
Second, people do not think deeply. According to the New Bury Dictionary, “cannot,” means to be unable to do something. In spite of the fact that the dictionary gives absolute definition for the word “cannot,” people use the word wrongly because they do not like to think. There is a reason why people do not take to think. In these days, technology is very developed, especially, the Internet. High technology helps people to live their lives more convenient. On the other hand, it makes people not to think. All they have to do is go to website and type whatever they want and press enter. People want to live their lives more convenient and easier, but the desire makes them fools. Thus, people cannot distinguish difference between “cannot” and do not try. Not thinking deeply and carefully is one of the reasons why people use the word “cannot” in the wrong way.
Lastly, people do not know about themselves exactly. People do not know for sure how much they can do, their capabilities, and their limitations. For example, believe or not, some people say human only use 10% of brain capacity. Moreover, people can find these kinds of hypothesis on the Internet: "They say you only use 10% of it." (Advertisement for database software, 1999): "You only use 11% of its potential." (Advertisement for digital TV, 1999). It proves that there is no limitation for people. However, people easily say, “I can’t do it” because they do not know certainly about themselves.
In conclusion, many people misuse the word “cannot.” The reasons why people misuse the word are various. Some people may do not know correct meaning of “cannot.” Some may do not think deeply, and some may do not know themselves. People should use correctly the word “cannot” because there are so many things people can do even though they think they cannot. Before saying, “I cannot do it,” people should try to do the best. After trying, although it does not work, it does not matter because at least they tried. Therefore, people should use the word “cannot” properly and correctly.

Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies

William Golding’s ‘lord of the flies’ is a story about conflicts that English boys have while they are shut in a desert island. Through this story, Golding wants to show us the ambiguity and fragility of civilization. Furthermore, he wants to tell us all human beings are innately evil.
To begin with, why Golding wrote about children? Most people believe child is innocent and pure; even some people say a child is like an empty paper so whatever people draw on it that becomes the child’s personality. In addition, G.K. Chesterton says, “Children are innocent and love justice, while most adults are wicked and prefer mercy.” As most people belief, children are innocent, however Golding examples these pure children as barbarian, savagery, and uncivilized men. The reason why Golding wrote about children is he wants to emphasize that even children have innate evil inside of their heart.
At the beginning of the story, Ralph and Jack get well. Jack agrees with Ralph’s ideas that they should make rules and keep fire in order to be rescued. In addition, they decide that whenever Ralph blow conch they are going to have assembly. As time pass by, however, conflicts are starting to arise up among children; moreover, they start to separate. It begins with happening that Jack let fire goes off, and Ralph gets mad because he tell Jack and his hunters to keep fire on. This happening develops to separation of children Jack and hunters to Ralph and others. After they are separated, Jack becomes a chief of the other group and he uses spear instead of conch. Later, Ralph and Jack start to hate each other and fight. Eventually, Jack and hunters kill Simon; furthermore, they try to kill Ralph.
At the first, children are very quite, dedicated, and innocent. As soon as, however, Jack against Ralph’s rules, fight each other, and situations are change, children are changed. They are not anymore innocent. They are just animals that follow only own desire, and they follow instinct more than rationality. In spite of the fact that there are only children in an island, who are well known as a symbol of innocent, they hate each other and kill people for just fulfilling their bloody lust. It tells us that all humans are innately evil and we have evilness inside of all of us.
Through writing this story, Golding wants to show all people have two faces; that are good and evil. When a situation goes well, we show good face to people, however, on the other hand, if it does not go well we start to reveal our evil face like dictatorship is revealed when democracy is collapsed. We cover our darkness with with our good thing. Therefore, there is no good man; all humans are innately evil whether young or old.

Two Wolves

I found really good story .. so I posted to share ~

A Native American grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt. He said, "I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one." The grandson asked him, "Which wolf will win the fight in your heart?" The grandfather answered: "The one I feed."

Thought

Today I thought about a proverb--"the early bird catches the worm." People often say, "Work diligently," and "don't be lazy." That is why people like to say this proverb to another. However, I thought about it differently today. I put myself in a worm's shoes. If a worm wakes up early, what is going to happen? The worm will be eaten by a bird. Then the reward of waking up early for the worm is death. I thought deeply about it, and I realized something. Many people want to do better on what they are capable of, but they have to think differently. It does not matter whether one wakes up early or late, or whether one is lazy or hardworking because not everything is achieved by hardworking. What matters is what kind of a condition one is in. People have to know how to deal with impossible conditions, not how to deal with that they can do when they try.

Regret

Today I wrote about regreting....

Many people want to go back to their past and fix things they had done. In addition, many times people think what if they had not done something, what if they had not said something, and so on. Many people want to go back because they think they could change situations, if they go back to their past. However, that is wrong. People should focus on their present instead of their past. I think there are two major reasons why people should focus on the present instead of the past. One is time never waits for people. When people hang on the past, people are going to lose the present. Then, they are going to regret repeatedly. People have to stick with the present because the past is never going to come back. If people want to live meaningful lives, they have to enjoy the present. The other is there is no person who does not regret about the past. People must have something regretful at least one anyway. Thus, people cannot live their lives regretting. If people cannot help but to regret, there is no reason for living in their past. Therefore people should concentrate on the present instead of the past.
